OFFICERS REPORTS

President – Karen Huckabay: Thank you everyone for playing today, great job winners of the Game, with that said, today’s general meeting is not following the order of the agenda. Note: meeting officially started at 12:20pm. Reminder the multi-membership rebate form is available on SNGA.org website for those who belong to more than one Club to fill out your rebate forms. Log on to SNGA.org and fill out the Rebate form to receive $20 for every additional Club after the first club you’ve joined within the year. SNGA will mail you a check sometime in October or November.

Vice President - Margie Cashwell: I like to inform the membership the changes coming from GHIN starting January 2020. Posting of your scores from every round of play must be posted on the day of play. Therefore, handicap index will be updated each time scores are posted. It will not be updated on bi-weekly basis anymore. If you checked into golf course and played a round but if you neglect to post your score on the day of play, GHIN will calculate your index by using your lowest score or the last posted score on record.

Business Women being a traveling club will have to look into a system where will need back-up GHIN Admin other than Kathy Faber to post our game day scores. Particularly if Kathy Faber is absent from the round, we will have to have another GHIN Administrator (Board Member) available to post scores from the various golf courses. Clarification from Deb Koch, the reason for your scores posted on the day of play is in the new GHIN system it will take into account the weather condition of the day and factor that into calculation of your handicap index. Example, high winds, rain, extreme heat or severe cold conditions etc. We will have more discussion on this process and the Board members will be meeting on this in the next couple of months.

SilverCup Tournament- Margie Cashwell: This was an amazing experience for all our players. Each round, the matches were played very well against the North team. They were close matches, although the South Team lost the cup back to the North this year, it wasn’t without a good fight with every match going down to wire. Playing SilverCup is a tremendous experience playing good competitive golf with teammates from different golf clubs that you don’t normally play with. I really want to encourage everyone to please come out and try out for the SilverCup team in the Qualifier tournament. You will gain great experience playing with the various levels of good women golfers throughout Las Vegas. There were several Business Women members on the team: Myself, Danielle Kaylor, Theresa Prospero, Theresa Summers, Christine Soscia, Karen Herness & Rusty Beckel (Captains) which makes our Club’s participation pretty significant on the team. This is my 2nd year playing and it is A LOT OF FUN! Please think about playing for the South team and try out for the SilverCup team during the Qualifier tournament around June/July. Next year, 2020 the SilverCup tournament will be played here at PAIUTE Golf Club.

They need qualified “net” players for the Silver Cup team, the more the better. COMMITTEE and CHAIRPERSONS REPORTS
Jan Hansen - on behalf of the play day game chair people, everyone please be more courteous when canceling last minute and arrive on time to play. Please try to be at the designated golf club early, a minimum 15 MINUTES PRIOR to start time! This will allow the Game Chairs time to have a few minutes where they can warm up themselves. Too often, the Game Chairs don’t have any time waiting to collect the game money or scrambling making last minute changes for scorecards etc. Let’s all try to arrive promptly or give yourselves a little more time to pay the Pro Shop and check in, so the Game Chairs can get ready themselves.

Jackie Pierson – I was going to send out an email but decided to address everyone today during the meeting. It has been brought up we need to remind everyone before the start of the round, please exchange your scorecards within your foursome and it’s always a good idea one person should keep a master scorecard for foursome for accuracy. Help each other keep track especially when we’re having a bad hole or simply adding the scores accurately. This is good practice and we have gotten “lax” on the procedure, we need to be diligent and consistent in doing this procedure for future play days & tournaments. It is one of our SNGABW standing rules.

Karen raised the issue for the membership to consider on how to address member(s) repeatedly canceling play days after the cutoff period. It’s taxing on the play day Chairs, golf clubs and our Club as a whole. How many warnings allowed, should they be access applicable green fees, restrict participation for repeat offenses, etc. Everyone, please think about the fairest way we can improve and move forward. We will have more discussions on matter and bring to a vote at later meeting.

Moving forward, this verbiage will be added after the reading of Treasurer’s report into the minutes report. Theresa Prospero: Theresa reminded everyone to sign up Boulder City and please keep the “request” to be paired with certain players to minimum as that takes the FUN out of planning the game for the golf course and being a Play Day Chair does if she has to worry about who can’t play with whom and who wants to play with who. So please keep in mind if it’s not absolutely necessary to play with someone, please no pairing requests. I appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Thank you.

NEW BUSINESS

Team Play: Nancy Lauback & Theresa Prospero are proud to announce after playing 2nd and 3rd matches against Revere and Chimera, we are in FIRST place for Gross and Overall! Way to Go Team! We have 2 more matches to go with the next match being a Bye for us. After that we will be playing against Wildhorse. Maary Smith Match Play: Jan Hansen was able to fill up the last few spots to make full field of 32 players for Maary Smith Match Play tournament at the meeting. Each round is scheduled in 2 week intervals to give any make up matches enough time to make it up before the next round. The missed match must be played at the original scheduled golf course and the Pro Shop will be notified of the names the matches need to be made up. They will accommodate those matches and honor same green fees as the original schedule greens fee rate. 1st round - March 24 @ Las Vegas National 2nd round - April 6 @ Rhodes Ranch (round of 16) 3rd round - April 20 @ Palm Valley (quarter-finals) 4th round - May 4 @ Boulder City (semi-finals) Championship round - May 19 @ Las Vegas National (finals)

Club Championship: Jan Hansen reminded this year since we voted on changing the date of the Club Championship to an earlier date, it is on June 1st & 2nd. However, moving the tournament up 2 months, this also shorten the fiscal year by 2 months to acquire minimum (10) points, (3) for attending general meetings to be eligible to play in Club Championship. Jan propose to the membership to reduce the points required to (9) points and reduce general meeting attendance to (2) for this year in order to qualify to play in the Club Championship given there are only 10 months in this fiscal year. Motion to approve, second by Lai Rippee. All in favor. The change was passed. Jan will send a revised points list to reflect the reduction in requirements.

Rules Chair: Janie Lunde handed out summary sheet “Quick Guide New 2019 Rules” Match vs Stroke play. Key points & clarification highlighted in the meeting for ON THE GREEN. Touching the line of the putt is no longer penalty. Ball ON THE GREEN moves on its own by act of nature, wind, gravity—You play where it lies. Once it’s “marked” and moves (not by you)—You must put it back to marked spot. HAZARDS—NO penalty to remove loose impediments and touching the ground, branch, leaves in your swing. NOT allow to break, remove permanent in the ground & purposely test conditions. Penalty in Match-loss of hole, Stroke-2 Strokes penalty. Making next stroke from previous stroke—ON TEE ground is anywhere within the tee markers, ONE Club from fairway, bunkers or rough. ON GREEN place on spot.

OLD BUSINESS 2019 Calendar: Jan Hansen said 2019 play dates are pretty much completed with couple TBD play dates left to fill. Jan will keep us posted with updates as they become available.

NEW BUSINESS
Team Play: Nancy Lauback reported we are off to a very good start with our 1st team match vs. Sun City at TPC Summerlin. We took total 11.5 putting us 2nd place for Gross and 3rd for overall. Our next match is February 18th at Chimera Golf Club, our opponent is Revere. Nancy wanted to address the membership regarding misunderstanding circulating as other team members from the other clubs have approached both Nancy & Theresa. As the Business Women team captains, Nancy & Theresa want to clarify a misunderstanding that our Club refused any member to be on the team. There’s been misinterpretation as there was never any intent to give the impression we were an “exclusive” club BUT on the contrary we’re an “inclusive” club welcoming all women to join and play with us! As your captains, we attempt to play all team members during the season with the goal to put out our BEST teams based on the opponents and the golf course the match will be played at and who’s available. It takes ALL OF US to have a successful season but the objective is to have FUN and everyone have an enjoyable experience.

Spring Trip: Michelle Bradford received the majority of responses from Business Women was NOT favorable or weren’t available to go on the Spring trip, therefore, no Spring trip this year. Michelle will be planning the Fall trip in September. She will start making inquiries to destinations and begin planning the Fall trip.

Maary Smith Match Play: Jan Hansen is starting the sign up for our annual Maary Smith Match Play tournament. Ideally Jan would like to have even number of players, 32 would be good number. 1st match is scheduled for March 24 @ Las Vegas National with 2 week intervals for each round. 2nd round April 6 @ Rhodes Ranch 3rd round April 20 @ Palm Valley 4th round May 4 @ Boulder City Final Championship round May 19 @ Las Vegas National

Rules Chair: Deb Koch reviewed and gave more clarification for some of the new terminology used in the new rules. The entire play area of golf course is called “GENERAL AREA” exception being teeing area, Penalty Area, bunkers and putting green.“Penalty area” no longer referred to as hazard or water hazard. Penalty area is defined or marked on the course such as deserts, densely wooded or over-grown area, tall unmaintained grasses, lava rock fields etc. You may now touch the ground and remove loose impediments in penalty area with NO penalty. But you cannot improve your ball lie nor cause your ball to move. Doing so will incur 1 stroke penalty and replace your ball. Abnormal Course Condition is referred to animal holes, ground under repair, temporary water or immovable obstruction (cart path). Taking relief, the new rule indicates to “DROP” from knee high—this can be done from any stance you want whether bending over, stooping down or kneeling on your knees as long as you are holding the ball and dropping it the same height or distance as your knees to the ground. For example, measure the distance of your knee to ground approx. 18”-20”, as long as you hold the ball at 18-20” above the ground to drop the ball, that is proper procedure.

SNGA Update: Deb Koch announced course re-ratings are in the process. Completed and re-rated are Angel Park Palm Course (3 Tees), Coyote Willows & SouthShore. Courses scheduled for re-rating are Wildhorse, TPC Las Vegas, Majave in Laughlin, Pauite Snow & Sun course. *Sue May has added 3+ rule seminars to her schedule. She has already given 30 seminars as well as reprinting more new rules pamphlets at $5 each to help recover printing costs. *Discussion of joint match-play event with Utah Golf Assoc to be held in St. George in April. *Legislative agenda is lobbying for “entertainment tax” on golf courses for the water usage which will be added to green fees *Tournament of Champions held at Reflection Bay, Volunteer of the Year awards were given to Sue May, Karen Herness and Rusty Beckel. Congratulations to Debbie Love for winning Gross Champion!

February Birthdays: Angela Parker (5); Karen Huckabay(17); Lydia Sato (21); Bonnie Thompson (23); Kathy Dunnuck (24); Connie Patterson (27)

We have finished up balancing the books for Jingle Balls and will be able to send $1,800 to each of our charities—Little Miss Hannah Foundation and Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.  This will leave a balance in our Jingle Balls account of $865.24.  Thank you letters for our sponsors and donors are going out next week.  Thanks again to all of you for your support and help!

Looking at the calendar for 2019, Thanksgiving is very late on November 28th. Traditionally, we have Jingle Balls the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, but this will push us into 1st week of December which may conflict with other Club invitationals. Jan proposed to membership moving Jingle Balls ahead a week to Tuesday, November 19, 2019. This proposal was approved by majority show of hands in the room.

2019 New Rules Seminar – Jan Hansen: On December 1st, Sue May gave our group the USGA “revised” rules seminar. We all received the new 2019 USGA Rules Booklet and the Newly Revised Rules Pamphlet. It was very informative and everyone must try to attend one of these seminars if you missed the one held for us at Bear’s Best. If you need the new rule booklets, please come see me or Margie Cashwell at the end of the meeting. IMPORTANT: SNGABW will NOT ADOPT a local rule taking 2 Strokes penalty for a ball out of bounds & be allowed to drop your ball from where it was lost or last seen crossing the out of bounds margin. This means we will continue to go back to the tee or where the ball was last played for any ball lost out of bounds. This is consistent with SNGA and WSNGA local rules.

NEW BUSINESS

2019 Executive Board—Margie Cashwell: The Executive Board Officers for 2019 are:

President: Karen Huckabay

Vice President: Margie Cashwell

Treasurer: Jackie Pierson

Secretary: Lai Rippee

WSNGA Rep: Nancy Lauback

The new board will be installed at the Holiday Party scheduled for December 8th 2018 at Desert Willow.

SNGABW Future Trips—Lai Rippee: As discussed in previous meeting, we want to take a membership poll, few to obtain feedback about the viability of future planned club trips. For example, there is some consensus to have ONE trip per year versus two and timing of the trip would be better served in Spring/early summer etc. Thank you for those of you who have sent your responses to Jan Hansen. If you haven’t and do have feedback you’d like to share, please send your questions to Jan. She will condense our response and send them for the membership to review. Let’s try to get this done within the next two weeks so we can have it wrapped up before year-end.

Siera Cup – Margie Cashwell: The 2nd Round at Bear’s Best Golf Club.

Today’s round was very close, the points were split exactly in half with 4.5 points won by each team. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough with combined 2 round results, the Team winning 2018 Siera Cup is the BLUE Team with 10.5 points over the SILVER team with 6.5 points. Many “thanks” to great job done by the Team Captains: Theresa Prospero, Christine Soscia, Karen Herness and Nancy Lauback.

Jingle Balls—Margie Cashwell: Our donations for raffle prizes are coming along and Jan will keep sending the updated list. Donation request letters are available if anyone needs one to send as well as an email version has gone out for those working on procuring items for our raffles. We have TWO Special Grand prizes donated to us this year. One is for 2 nights stay in Suite Room at Westgate Hotel with $500 gift card & tickets to show secured by Nicole Nolan. The 2nd grand prize is 2 night stay at JW Marriott package secured by Barb Ford. These are great Raffle prizes and we will be selling the raffle tickets at $5.00 per ticket.

The Jingle Ball Work Day to assemble all the raffle gifts will be on Saturday, November 24th from 11am – 2pm at Lai Rippee’s house, address is 11294 Merado Peak Drive in Summerlin. We’ll need volunteers to come help assemble gift baskets on Sat. Nov. 24th. As in past, we will have work stations with the gift baskets being main assembly group. Please let Jan and Lai Rippee know if you would like to come help on Nov. 24th.

Rules Seminar--Dec. 1st – Margie Cashwell: Reminder to everyone we will hold the New Rules Seminar after play at Bear’s Best on Dec. 1st. Sue May will be conducting the seminar, please try to make this important seminar for the new USGA rules in effect January 1st 2019. Kathy Faber has volunteered to email our membership with online information such as detailed videos and demonstrations of what the new rule changes will be. Thank you Kathy!

2019 Calendar – Margie Cashwell: We’ve experiencing challenges with lack of participation on our play days. This has given rise for us to re-evaluate as we have 120 members but it seems there is only a core of 20-40 members who participate. Our calendar for entire year is set and the golf courses provide us with favorable rates due to our numbers we contract (40 spots). This will not be possible given some of our numbers have been very low at some of the golf courses. The golf clubs are not happy when we release back so many spots, as well as the play day Chairperson(s) have to re-work the game & scorecards with last minute changes etc. Please let Jan Hansen know any golf course suggestions you would like to play for next year and if there are golf courses you do not wish to play. Feel free to submit them to Jan confidentially.

Club Championship 2019 will be on JUNE 1st & 2nd, 2019

Holiday Party--Monica Fairbanks & Peggy Gore: The destination will be at Desert Willow Golf Club, 2020 Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson. The date is Saturday, December 8th at 8:00am. The price is $55.00 per person, $34 for golf and $21 for the lunch.

Please make check payment to SNGABW.

Please give MONICA FAIRBANKS your check, either in person or mail to 488 Eagle Vista Drive, Henderson NV 89012 ASAP. Please RSVP with Monica Fairbanks or Peggy Gore and send in your payment as soon as possible.

OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

Handicap Rebate—Jan Hansen: The rebate program is available as of September 1st for anyone who belongs to more than one SNGA Club. You will receive $20 back for every additional club you belonged to for the year. Go online at www.snga.org and fill out the rebate form. A check will be sent to you from SNGA.

Nominating Committee—Jan Hansen: Jan thanked Christine Soscia and Suzanne Desmarais for serving on the Nominating Committee. They presented the slate of officers for the 2019 Executive Board members as follows: Vice President, continued by Margie Cashwell; WSNGA Rep, continued by Nancy Lauback; Jackie Pierson will remain as Treasurer and Lai Rippee will continue to be Secretary for 2019. President will be Karen Huckabay. As there were no positions with more than one nominee, a motion was made by Barb Ford to accept the slate as presented to all present at the meeting for a vote. The motion was 2nd by Monica Fairbanks and the slate was passed by the membership. The new board will be installed at the Holiday Party scheduled for December 8th 2018.

Holiday Party: This year’s Holiday Party is organized by Monica Fairbanks. The destination will be at Desert Willow. Monica will send out email with more information.

Fall Trip—Lai Rippee: The Itinerary is sent out to the participants going to Prescott next week Friday, October 19 to 21, 2018. We will be staying at the Forest Villas Hotel and playing golf at Antelope Hills Golf Club North & South Course. I will need to know your carpooling arrangements if I don’t already. Otherwise, it’s going to be another expected fun time with nice small tight group!

SNGABW Trips—Jan Hansen: A discussion was held regarding the planning of future planned trips for Business Women. It seems the participation has been declining with the current Fall trip being the worse participation to date. Out of 120 members, only 15 members are participating in this trip. There is a lot of planning and work that goes into putting a trip together which is done months ahead of time. With participation falling far below expected numbers, the membership needs to re-evaluate the necessity of having a trip in the Spring and particularly, in the Fall. Fall seems to be an extra busy time as the calendar is full with Club Invitationals, State tournaments and Silver Cup. Moving forward, I would ask you to submit a few questions/reasons FOR or AGAINST us to having just ONE planned trip and not in the Fall time frame.

Jingle Balls Entry—Jan Hansen: Our donations for raffle prizes are coming along and she will keep sending the updated list. Donation request letters are available if anyone needs to take one to send as well as an email version has gone out for those working on procuring items for our raffles. We have a Special Grand prize donated to us this year secured by Nicole Nolan. This is for 2 nights stay in Suite Room at Westgate Hotel with a $500 gift card and tickets to a show. We will need to do a Grand Raffle Drawing for this prize and a suggestion was made to charge $5.00 per ticket. This suggestion was adopted by the membership.

Jan also asked for suggestions as to the TWO CHARITIES we support with our raffle sales. These charities should be in our local community. A suggestion was also made that we dedicate this year’s Jingle Balls Invitational to Mary Tucker. This was adopted by the membership.

Sierra Cup – Jan Hansen: The 1st Round results are in after play at Las Vegas National.

Blue Team is leading with 6 points to Silver Team 2points.

The 2nd Round will be on November 4th at Bear’s Best with our general membership meeting following play.

2019 Calendar – Jan Hansen: Jan indicated she is a bit behind this year in contacting all the golf courses and securing contracted dates for 2019 calendar play days. However, our play day numbers have also fallen and it seems out of 120 members, it’s the same core 20-40 members participating. Every year, everyone is asked to give me suggestions of where you all like to play and it’s contracted for our group for approx. 40 spots. This is becoming harder to do with lack of participation at some of the course. We will not be able to get favorable green fees if our play day numbers continue to stay at this level. Any feedback about the courses or reasons for not participating regularly can be sent to Jan confidentially.

September & October Birthdays: Valerie Catallozzi (3); Debbie Love (6); Margie Cashwell (7); Pauline Jackson (9); Laura Nalder (16); Suzanne Desmarais (26); Deanna Imboden (29); Denise Traniello (3); Patty Gerber (15); Sue Rambo (16); Christine Yun (17); Teresa Howe (20); Christy Smith (21); Sandra Hengels (25); Michelle French (27); Kay Takashima Heine (30); Ethney Hovanec (31)

Meeting Adjourn at 1:10pm
